MATTESON TOWNSHIP – Charges have been filed against a Branch County man in a shooting incident.

Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien says four charges were filed against 28 year old Travis McCann during his arraignment Friday in District Court. He is charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, aggravated stalking and felony firearm.

Michigan State Police were called to a residence in the 900 block of West Colon Road just after 12 AM on November 12. The female resident of the property said that a family member, McCann, came to the house unannounced and was upset she had her boyfriend there.

The victim went outside to tell McCann to leave. McCann began to leave and then stopped in the roadway. He allegedly threatened to kill the victim and shot a gun in her general direction as well as the house.

In addition to the victim's boyfriend, there were two children in the house. No one was injured and McCann left the area in a brown colored Jeep. McCann was stopped a short time later and arrested in LaGrange County, Indiana. A firearm and suspected drugs was found in McCann's vehicle at the time of his arrest.

Stempien says bond for McCann was set at $100,000. He is scheduled to have a probable cause hearing December 1 and a preliminary examination on December 8.
