Speed And Alcohol Factors In Park Township Crash
Saturday, May 15, 2021

PARK TOWNSHIP – Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in a one vehicle crash that sent the driver to the hospital.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says his department was called Friday at 11 AM to Park Township for a one vehicle injury accident. Deputies determined a Volkswagen passenger car was driving south on Johnson Road at a high rate of speed. The car entered a blind curve in the northbound lane and swerved to avoid a delivery truck that was partially parked in the northbound lane.

The vehicle went off the west side of the road, spinning sideways before striking a tree, which split the vehicle in half. The driver, a 34 year old Three Rivers man, was flown from the scene by West Michigan Air Care for treatment of serious injuries. Once the crash investigation is completed, the incident will be reviewed for possible charges.

Assisting deputies were the Michigan State Police along with the Fabius-Park and Three Rivers Fire Departments.
