On Wednesday evening, at the Norfolk Southern Railroad crossing at Perry Road west of Gerber Street in the town of Ligonier, a Warsaw man attempted to drive across the tracks and was struck by an oncoming Amtrak train. The man was later identified as William Sanford, age 41 of Warsaw as he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fortunately, no one on board the train was injured in the crash that remains under investigation by Norfolk Southern Police, along with Amtrak Police.
