On May 4, 2021 at approximately 9:07 AM Steuben County Communications received a 911 call regarding a crash involving a semi-tractor trailer and a pickup truck located at the intersection of US HWY 20 and CR 600 W located in Jackson Township in Steuben County, Indiana.
Upon arrival of the Steuben County Sheriff's Office and Indiana State Police, a Chevrolet Avalanche was found to be on its drivers' side with a female trapped inside the vehicle. The semi-tractor trailer was off in the grass on the Northside of US HWY 20 west of the intersection of CR 600 W.
It was determined a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche, being driven by Raymond J. Parks, age 26, of Kendallville Indiana was Northbound on CR 600 W. The 1995 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer being driven by Jose G. Fregoso, age 54, of Zephyrhills Florida was Westbound on US HWY 20. Parks failed to yield the right of way and crossed in front of the semi-tractor trailer. The Avalanche was struck on the passenger side and rolled over.
Marion M. Pocock, age 53, of Angola Indiana was extricated from the vehicle by the Angola Fire Department with the assistance of the Fremont Fire Department. Pocock was transported by Steuben County EMS to the Tri-State Steuben County airport where she was transferred to the Samaritan Helicopter and flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne Indiana. Pocock was listed in critical condition with numerous injuries.
Parks was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured, while Pocock was not wearing a seat belt. Fergoso was wearing a seatbelt and uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff's Office.
Assisting at the scene were the Indiana State Police, Angola Police Department, Angola Fire Rescue, Fremont Fire Rescue, Steuben County EMS, Samaritan Helicopter and Steuben County Communications.
Any criminal charge is merely an accusation. The Defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
