ANGOLA – On Monday during the Angola Plan Commission meeting at City Hall board members approved a motion for favorable recommendation to Angola’s Common Council for a rezoning request for property near Buck Lake Ranch.
The request made by property owner Marvin Baker was for the rezoning of a 39-acre parcel at the northern end of Hetzler Court in Angola from R4 Multifamily Residential to PR Parks and Recreation.
The property was the former site of Bill’s Professional Towing and Repair now located across the road at 2765 W Maumee St.
Baker said his plans for the property were not yet set, but that he did have plans to join it with his current property Buck Lake Ranch located just north of the Hetzler Court property.
Mutiple residents near Hetzler Court and Buck Lake spoke out at the meeting about the rezoning request with noise complaints regarding Buck Lake Ranch and their music events.
They voiced concerns that expanding Buck Lake Ranch would bring more people in and around their neighborhoods and create more traffic and more noise which they believed could result in decreased property values.
The Angola Plan Commission explained Monday’s request was for a favorable recommendation to the Angola Common Council who would be making the final decision on the rezoning.
Baker explained his plans for the location were being made for the betterment of Steuben County. He stated he has invested over $4 million to the community including Buck Lake Ranch and Buck Lake Bar and Grill opening in the old McCools Tavern building.
Buck Lake Ranch is a historical staple of Steuben County with historical stages who have reportedly hosted stars Elvis Presley, Roy Rogers, Tammy Wynette and Gene Autry and many others.
Baker said he is actively renovating Buck Lake Ranch and makes his investments with both the environment and the betterment of community of Steuben County as top contributing factors.
