
ASHLEY-HUDSON, IN - According to the Ashley-Hudson Police Department, an Angola man has been arrested for operating
On Friday night, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Ashley-Hudson officers were notified of a reported impaired driver travelling north on I69. Officers responded and located a vehicle matching the description travelling north from the 340 mile marker.
Authorities say the vehicle was followed. Reports indicate officers observed it weaving within the lane multiple times as well as crossing the white fog line onto the rumble strips.
During a subsequent traffic stop officers developed probable cause to believe the driver, identified by authorities as Lloy J. Ball, age 51 of Angola, was operating while intoxicated. Mr. Ball consented to a chemical test with a result of .165 grams of alcohol per 210 L of breath.
Lloy is a 2008 Volleyball Gold Medalist and 4-time Olympian. He is currently he head varsity volleyball coach at Angola High School. In addition, he has directed and coached club volleyball in NE Indiana (https://angolavolleyball.weebly.com/coaches1.html).
According to Steuben County Communications, the Friday night encounter over the OWI happened in Steuben County.
The Ashley-Hudson Police Department said as a result of Friday’s incident, Ball was charged with operating while intoxicated greater than .15 and operating while intoxicated endangerment.
Officials at the Steuben County jail say he was taken into custody and booked at their facility. They said Saturday morning he had been released on bail.
Ball is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
