JACKSON COUNTY, IN – Indiana Republican Representative James “Jim” Lucas was arrested early Wednesday, May 31 on OWI charges.
The Indiana State Police said Lucas, 58, was arrested after crashing his vehicle on I-65 just north of Seymour, Indiana at around midnight.
Lucas fled the scene in his vehicle but was found in the same vehicle in a nearby location by the Seymour Police Department and was then arrested by the Indiana State Police.
The state representative was booked on preliminary charges of two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (endangerment and motor vehicle), causing endangerment and leaving the scene of a crash.
Bond was set at $705. Lucas was released from the Jackson County Detention Center just before 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Lucas has been a state representative since 2012 for House District 69 which includes portions of Bartholomew, Jackson, Washington and Scott counties in southern Indiana.
