ANGOLA – The Angola Police Department announced on Wednesday, May 31 that they have been receiving a high number of reports from residents regarding a scam.
The scammers are claiming to be part of the Angola Police Department or the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and are scamming residents out of large sums of money.
The scammers are telling residents the money is for the release of an incarcerated family member or friend of Steuben County residents.
Neither the Angola Police Department nor the Steuben County Sheriff's Office would ever contact any residents by phone requesting money for the release of an inmate.
Authorities are urging residents to hang up immediately, block the callers if possible, and under no circumstance send the callers money.
