ELKHART COUNTY – Authorities have identified the man who died in a crash on the Indiana Toll Road.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police say the victim is 18 year old Mauro Reyes of Middlebury.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 6 AM Sunday of a vehicle that crashed into a wooded area near the County Road 10 overpass for the Toll Road. Deputies arrived and found a pick up in the trees that appeared to come from the Toll Road.
Indiana State Police were called in to help with the investigation. They determined that Reyes was heading west when his truck ran off the north side of the Toll Road, crashing through a guardrail near the 87.7 Mile Marker, and then rolled over before coming to a rest.
Authorities say Reyes was ejected during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.
Excessive speed and alcohol likely were factors in the crash, which is still under investigation. They also believe Reyes was not wearing a seatbelt.
