(SALEM TOWNSHIP) – An incident over the weekend has landed a woman behind bars.
Steuben County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Meeks says just after 6 PM on Saturday, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence on Turkey Lake Lane 124 in Salem Township for a reported stabbing. The initial investigation indicated that a man and a woman had been involved in a domestic dispute, at which time the woman allegedly stabbed the man in the back.
Sheriff’s Detectives were called to assist in the investigation.
The male victim was treated at the scene by Steuben County EMS before being transported to an area hospital.
Detectives conducted an initial interview with 55 year old Deanna Hembree of LaGrange, who claimed she had been struck in the face with a closed first by the man. However, Detectives say Hembree appeared to be uninjured.
Following the interview, Hembree was arrested on a felony charge of domestic battery with a deadly weapon. She is being held in the Steuben County Jail without bond.
Alcohol was a factor in the incident, which remains under investigation.
