(INDIANAPOLIS) - Democratic candidate Beau Bayh says his campaign for Indiana secretary of state is gaining early financial momentum, reporting more than $1.8 million raised just months after launching his bid.
Bayh's campaign said it ended 2025 with about $1.56 million cash on hand, following fundraising that began in October. Campaign officials say donations came from thousands of contributors across all 92 Indiana counties, signaling broad statewide support as the race takes shape.
In a statement, Bayh said the fundraising reflects voter frustration with how state government has been run and pledged to focus his campaign on transparency, accountability, and election integrity.
Bayh is the grandson of former U.S. Sen. Birch Bayh and the son of former Indiana governor Evan Bayh. He is expected to face Blythe Potter for the Democratic nomination. Potter, a Johnson County precinct committee member, has said she is optimistic about the race and has emphasized voter access and civic engagement as priorities.
The Democratic nominee for secretary of state will be chosen by party delegates at the state convention in June in downtown Indianapolis. Delegates will also select Democratic candidates for state treasurer and state comptroller.
On the Republican side, current Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales has already announced his campaign for reelection. Morales was first elected to the office in 2022.
The secretary of state oversees elections, business filings, and securities regulation, making the race one of the most closely watched statewide contests in Indiana heading into the 2026 election cycle.
