(ANGOLA) - A high-speed chase that began in Fremont and tore south down Interstate 69 ended Sunday night in DeKalb County, after police stopped a fleeing driver and chased him on foot.

Police say Adolfo Mejia-Fuentes, 19, of Indianapolis, took off after a Fremont officer spotted him speeding through town just after 8 p.m. The pursuit moved west on State Road 120, then south onto I-69, with speeds climbing past 100 miles per hour.

After the driver briefly pulled out of sight, an Indiana State Police trooper picked up the pursuit near the Steuben County rest park. The chase continued into DeKalb County, where sheriff’s deputies deployed stop sticks at two locations. The vehicle slowed near mile marker 332, and investigators say Mejia-Fuentes ran from the car before being caught after a short foot chase.

He was taken into custody in DeKalb County, then transported back to Steuben County, where the pursuit began, and booked into the Steuben County Jail.

Mejia-Fuentes is charged with Level 6 felony resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, along with multiple misdemeanor counts including driving while suspended, reckless driving with property damage, marijuana possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He posted a $10,000 bond Monday and was released. If convicted on all charges, he could face up to four years and eight months in prison, along with more than $17,000 in fines.
