(VAN WERT) - A Van Wert postal worker is facing federal charges after authorities say he burned mail he was supposed to deliver.

Kyle Carver has pleaded not guilty to one count of delay or destruction of mail.

According to police, an officer responded to a reported backyard fire in the 900 block of George Street in October. The officer found undelivered mail burning at the scene.

Investigators say Carver lived at the property and was responsible for delivering the mail.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service reviewed the case and presented evidence to a federal grand jury, which filed charges earlier this month.

No court dates have been announced. The case remains under review.
