(STEUBEN COUNTY) -- Sunday, Jan. 25 -- The Steuben County Commissioners have raised the county's travel status to an Orange Travel Watch, citing hazardous winter weather conditions that pose a threat to public safety.

According to Steuben County Emergency Management, the change to a Watch Level took effect at 7:30 a.m. Sunday and will remain in place until conditions improve and officials reevaluate the situation

An Orange Travel Watch means travel conditions are considered dangerous, and residents are urged to limit driving to essential purposes only. Officials recommend travel only for work, emergencies, or other necessary situations.

During an Orange advisory, businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations are encouraged to implement emergency action plans and monitor conditions closely. Authorities emphasize that unnecessary travel increases the risk of accidents and can hinder emergency response efforts.

County officials urge residents to stay informed through official updates and use caution if travel is unavoidable. Further changes to travel status will be announced as conditions evolve.
