(FORT WAYNE) -- Fort Wayne International Airport recorded its busiest year ever in 2025, with passenger traffic climbing to a new high.

Airport officials announced nearly one million passengers flew in and out of Fort Wayne International Airport last year. The total reached 983,042 passengers, a 14.7 percent increase from 2024, when 856,803 travelers used the airport. That followed an eight percent increase from 2023.

Airport leaders credit expanded flight options and increased capacity for the continued growth. Allegiant Air launched nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale in November 2025. Delta Air Lines added a second daily nonstop flight to Detroit in June. United Airlines expanded service to Chicago O'Hare, offering four daily flights throughout most of the year and up to five during peak travel periods. American Airlines also increased aircraft size on its nonstop route to Chicago, boosting seat availability.

Airport officials say the momentum is carrying into 2026. United Airlines is set to increase service between Fort Wayne and Chicago O'Hare from four daily flights to six beginning in April.

The airport also expects its East Terminal Expansion project to be completed in early summer 2026, a development officials say will further improve the passenger experience and support continued growth.

Fort Wayne International Airport has seen steady increases in passenger numbers over the past several years as more travelers choose to fly locally.
