(INDIANAPOLIS) - Fremont's girls basketball team capped a breakthrough season with a state runner-up finish Saturday, falling to defending champion Borden in the IHSAA Class 1A title game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The Eagles, making their first appearance in any state championship game in school history, could not overcome Borden's experience and lost 51-31 to finish the season 28-3.

Grace Scharlach led Fremont with 10 points, while Mya Turner added 8 points and two steals. Chloe Verdin and Hailey Heller each scored 5 points, with Heller hitting the team's only three-pointer. Seniors Heller, Willow Whittaker and Alaska Gochenour closed their careers on the state stage, while a strong junior core is expected to return next season.

The game marked Borden's second straight state title.
