(AUBURN) - A new INDOT traffic camera near Auburn is raising eyebrows online, but state officials say it has nothing to do with toll roads.
The camera, installed near Exit 326 on I-69 at County Road 11A, is part of INDOT's Trafficwise network.
The Auburn camera is one of nine being added in DeKalb and Steuben counties. Every interchange -- along with some rural stretches of I-69 -- will receive similar upgrades. Crews are working to have the cameras available on the INDOT Trafficwise Map later this year.
Concerns surfaced on social media suggesting the camera could signal future tolling, especially after a 2025 law made it easier for Indiana to establish interstate tolls.
INDOT says that is not the case and that the cameras are designed to improve traffic monitoring and public access to roadway conditions -- particularly during adverse weather or crashes.
Drivers can view the live feeds through the INDOT Trafficwise Map before heading out.
