(COLDWATER & QUINCY) - With the May 5 election just over two months away, Coldwater and Quincy school officials are ramping up efforts to inform voters about proposed bond issues.

Coldwater Community Schools recently mailed a bond information flyer to district residents outlining its proposed $64 million plan to renovate and expand the current high school.

The plan calls for a 1.5 mill increase. For a homeowner with a $200,000 house, that would amount to about $150 per year.

More details are available at coldwaterschools.org.

Quincy Community Schools is also preparing voters for its $60 million bond proposal, which will appear as a 5.3 mill increase on the ballot. Due to certain debts being paid off, the net increase would be about 4.5 mills.

The plan focuses on renovating existing buildings rather than constructing new schools. Proposed projects include demolishing the 1931 middle school to create parking, converting the old gym into a combined cafeteria and auditorium, renovating the high school to house middle school administration and science labs, adding a new two-story classroom building and gymnasium, and building a new bus garage at Jennings Elementary.

Quincy will hold a public information meeting at Jennings Elementary and Thursday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Middle School cafeteria.
