(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology is accepting applications for Historic Preservation Fund grants for fiscal year 2026.

Applications must be submitted through the State of Indiana's Grant Management System by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 5.

Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations with tax-exempt status, educational institutions such as schools and universities, and local government agencies. For-profit businesses and private residential or commercial property owners are not eligible. The grants require matching funds from applicants.

Projects must fall into one of three categories: architectural and historical work, archaeological research, or acquisition and development projects focused on preserving or rehabilitating historic buildings and structures.

Projects funded through the program must involve properties already listed on the National Register of Historic Places, either individually or as part of a historic district.

The grant timeline has been adjusted based on expected federal funding. Projects should not plan to begin before Oct. 1 and must be completed by June 30, 2028.

The grants are funded in part through the National Park Service's Historic Preservation Fund and administered in Indiana by the DNR Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology
