(Coldwater) - A 57-year-old Detroit woman has been sentenced to 19 months to 10 years in prison for smuggling drugs into the Lakeland Correctional Facility in December 2023. Della Williams received the sentence from Circuit Judge Bill O'Grady after pleading guilty to possession of methamphetamine.

Investigators linked Williams to a package found hidden in a public lobby restroom at the prison. Fingerprints matching Williams were discovered on the package, which contained multiple balloons filled with methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl. A later lab analysis also uncovered marijuana wax, marijuana, and suboxone. The discovery came shortly after Williams visited her husband, a former inmate at the facility. Williams, who worked as a nursing home aide, offered no statement during sentencing. She was taken to the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility. She had been free on bond and received one day of jail credit.
