(FERDINAND) - Indiana State Police say a 25-year-old bank robbery case has now been solved using DNA evidence.

According to WEHT, investigators have identified the suspect responsible for the September 1, 2000 robbery of Holland National Bank in Ferdinand.

Police say the armed suspect broke into a home earlier that morning, tied up a mother and her young child, and forced them into a closet. The suspect used the woman's vehicle to carry out the bank robbery.

The case was reassigned to the Indiana State Police Cold Case Unit in 2024. Detectives used DNA collected at the scene to narrow the investigation to three brothers connected to the area at the time.

Two of those individuals are now deceased, and the third was ruled out through testing.

State police say the investigation has reached a conclusive resolution identifying the suspect, though further details have not been released.
