(FORT WAYNE) - A major investment is planned to strengthen the electric grid in northeast Indiana.

Indiana Michigan Power says it will spend $34 million on upgrades aimed at improving reliability and preparing for future growth.

The project includes building and rebuilding several miles of transmission lines and upgrading six substations in the area.

An open house is set for March 19 at the McMillen Park Community Center, where residents can review plans and provide input.

Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2027 and wrap up by early 2029.
