(ANGOLA) - Trine University's annual Take Back the Night rally and march returns Tuesday evening, April 7, focused on sexual assault awareness, survivor support and prevention.
The event begins at 6 p.m. in the MTI Center as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Organizers say the evening will include food, an information fair, poster-making and free handouts, followed by speakers focused on education and survivor advocacy.
The keynote speaker will be Kim Hemker, executive director of the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, and a survivor who serves on the coalition's board will also share their story.
The event will conclude with the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" march down Thunder Drive to the Ryan Skybridge and back, with men wearing high heels in support of survivors.
Trine says the event is free and open to the public.
Student organizations are also taking part in a penny wars fundraiser during the week leading up to the event, with proceeds benefiting the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.
University officials say the goal is to continue building community awareness about sexual harassment and assault while supporting survivors.
