(ABACO ISLANDS, BAHAMAS) - A Lenawee County woman remains missing in the Bahamas after authorities say she went overboard during a nighttime dinghy trip in rough weather.

The woman has been identified as Lynette Hooker of Onsted, who was traveling Saturday evening with her husband between Hope Town and Elbow Cay in the Abaco Islands.

According to Bahamian authorities, the couple left around 7:30 p.m. in an 8-foot hard-bottom dinghy, heading back to their yacht, Soulmate, when Hooker reportedly fell into the water.

Investigators say she was reportedly holding the boat's key when she went overboard, immediately shutting off the engine and leaving the vessel without power.

Her husband, Brian Hooker, told authorities strong currents quickly carried her away in the darkness, and he was unable to turn the dinghy around to search.

He then paddled for several hours before reaching the Marsh Harbour Boat Yard around 4 a.m. Sunday, where he reported her missing.

The search now includes the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Royal Bahamas Defence Force, local volunteers and aircraft support from the U.S. Coast Guard.

As of the latest update, there have been no confirmed sightings, and the search remains active.
