(HILLSDALE COUNTY) - A Michigan State Police trooper is being credited with quick lifesaving action after helping a choking driver.
State police say Trooper Plantz was on patrol Sunday in the area of M-49 and Cole Road when he came across a vehicle and found a man choking.
Dispatch traffic indicates the trooper quickly stepped in and delivered multiple abdominal thrusts.
Within moments, the man began breathing again, though police say he did vomit after the lifesaving maneuver.
Trooper Plantz then requested medical personnel to respond and evaluate the driver.
Authorities say the man appeared to have been eating while driving when he began choking.
Police say the trooper's fast response and training likely prevented what could have become a tragic outcome.
