(FREMONT) - The Fremont Classroom Teachers Association (FCTA) is publicly raising concerns about how the Indiana State Teachers Association has handled the status of a regional union leader.

FCTA leadership says its UniServ Director, Anita Vernon, was placed on administrative leave pending termination several weeks ago, describing the process as lacking transparency and leaving local educators "in limbo."

The association says UniServ Directors play a key role in supporting teachers with guidance, representation and day-to-day union matters, and Vernon's absence has been felt across the district.

In a formal letter sent to ISTA Executive Director Nate Williams, FCTA leadership expressed frustration with what it calls a lack of communication about the situation.

The letter states Vernon's removal has left local leadership "frustrated, confused, and unsure where to turn for guidance," and questions how union resources are being used.

FCTA is also calling for the reinstatement of Vernon and colleague Rick Scalf, saying both have been critical to supporting educators and school operations in the area.

In its post, the association says the situation has now stretched beyond 50 days, adding that members believe that is too long without clear updates or resolution.

ISTA has not publicly responded to the concerns outlined by the Fremont teachers.
