(INDIANAPOLIS) - Local governments, schools, universities and nonprofit organizations across Indiana can now apply for up to $100,000 in funding through the Indiana Department of Environmental Management's Community Recycling Grant Program.

Applications are being accepted through June 26 for projects focused on recycling, waste reduction, household hazardous waste collection and disposal, organics management and public education efforts.

Eligible applicants may request between $1,000 and $100,000. IDEM says funded projects must demonstrate a direct or indirect increase in waste diversion and be designed to create sustainable, cost-effective recycling programs.

The grant program is funded through IDEM's Solid Waste Management Fund.

Final funding decisions are expected in late December.

IDEM also announced a second round of recycling-related grant opportunities will become available later this summer. Those grants will range from $50,000 to $500,000 and may be available to businesses, local governments, solid waste management districts, higher education institutions and nonprofit organizations.

Additional information is available through IDEM.
