(NOBLE COUNTY) - Central Noble Community School Corporation says it is investigating after candy was distributed to students Wednesday in pouches labeled "for adults 21 and over."

According to a statement posted by the school corporation, administrators learned of the situation during dismissal at Central Noble Primary School.

School officials said staff confiscated as many of the bags as possible after becoming aware of the issue. Families were initially advised to immediately dispose of any brown candy bags that may have been brought home and to seek medical attention if a child showed symptoms of intoxication.

Later Wednesday, the corporation released an update saying two separate samples from the candy bags were independently tested and both came back negative for THC or marijuana-related substances.

School officials now believe commercially purchased candy was repackaged into pouches labeled "for adults 21 and over."

The district said it does not believe the candy itself poses a danger to students or families, but officials are still encouraging families to dispose of any remaining bags that were not confiscated at school.

Central Noble says the investigation into how the situation happened is continuing.

The district says families with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact Superintendent Dr. Younghans.
