(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Mike Braun has proclaimed June as Nuclear Family Month in Indiana, issuing the designation on the first day of Pride Month.
The proclamation defines a nuclear family as "one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children."
Braun said the family structure is "God's design" and called it the foundation of society. The proclamation also cites research the governor says shows children living with married biological parents experience stronger physical and emotional outcomes.
In social media posts, Braun said his views are shaped by his experience as a father of four and grandfather of seven.
The proclamation states that "Hoosier values celebrate the commitment mothers and fathers have made to each other and to their children" and says Indiana will continue supporting policies intended to strengthen families.
