(YPSILANTI) - A Hillsdale County woman has become the third inmate to die unexpectedly in the past three weeks at Michigan's only women's prison.

Thirty-six-year-old Ashley Hoath died Saturday after being rushed from the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility to a hospital in Ann Arbor.

Prison officials say Hoath was taken to the prison clinic after vomiting and complaining of an illness. Her condition quickly deteriorated.

The latest death has intensified calls from lawmakers for investigations into the Michigan Department of Corrections and operations at the prison.

Hoath was serving a 25-to-40-year sentence for second-degree murder in the 2017 death of her former boyfriend, Jeremy Barron.

Barron's body was found in a field near Dimmers and Gilmore Roads nearly two months after he was killed.

Jay Scott Clark of Bryan, Ohio, was convicted of first-degree murder in the case and is serving a life sentence without parole.
