(SHIPSHEWANA) - A Shipshewana woman has been charged with murder and neglect of a dependent causing death following an investigation into the death of an infant.

Indiana State Police say detectives were called to a Shipshewana residence on April 6, 2026, to investigate the infant's death. The investigation was conducted with the LaGrange County Coroner's Office, LaGrange County Sheriff's Department and Shipshewana Marshal's Office.

Police say the investigation led detectives to determine there was enough evidence to charge the infant's mother.

Chantel Cunningham, 24, of Shipshewana was charged Wednesday, July 29, with:

  • Murder, a Level 1 felony
  • Neglect of a Dependent Causing Death, a Level 1 felony

Cunningham was taken into custody and is being held at the LaGrange County Jail.
