NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WLKI) - A 14-year-old Fort Wayne girl has been identified as the victim of a fatal two-vehicle crash on Interstate 265 in southern Indiana, according to a report by 21Alive WPTA.
Abigail Garber died in the crash, which happened on eastbound I-265 near New Albany after traffic slowed because of metal rods and fencing debris in the roadway.
According to investigators, 48-year-old John Garber was driving in the right lane when he attempted to merge into the left lane. His vehicle was then struck by a pickup truck driven by 69-year-old Michael Grant of New Albany.
Abigail Garber was pronounced dead following the collision. A 16-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries and was transported to Norton Children's Hospital in Louisville for treatment.
John Garber sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening, while 51-year-old Jennifer Garber suffered minor injuries. Grant was not injured in the crash.
Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the collision beyond the roadway debris that had slowed traffic before the crash occurred.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help support the Garber family following the tragedy.
The crash remains under investigation.
