ANGOLA (WLKI) - The Steuben County Board of Commissioners has agreed to provide information technology support for Northeast Indiana Community Corrections, which serves Steuben and LaGrange counties.
James Hanson, vice chair of the agency's advisory committee and a LaGrange County public defender, told commissioners the agency's former executive director had handled many of its technology needs.
Hanson said moving those responsibilities under Steuben County's existing IT structure would improve system security and maintenance while having minimal financial impact. Community Corrections will continue using Department of Corrections grant funding to purchase hardware.
Officials said a consultant has already been hired to map the agency's network and assist with the transition. Steuben County IT Director Tammi Sumney said her department has already been providing support.
Commissioners also discussed complaints about rats in the Wildwood area. A residents' association representative asked the county to enforce restrictions on farm animals in lakeside residential areas. Commissioners said code enforcement action would need to work through the court system.
In other business, Sheriff Rodney Robinson requested funding for inmate health-monitoring equipment in jail holding cells. Robinson said the system could help staff identify potential medical emergencies between required inmate checks. Commissioners tabled the request for additional discussion, according to the Herald Republican.
