COLDWATER, Mich. (WLKI) - A Coldwater man is facing felony drug charges after a traffic stop Thursday led to a narcotics investigation and a search of his home.
Branch County Sheriff Fred Blankenship says deputies stopped a vehicle on Chicago Road near Sprague Street in Coldwater on September 3.
During the stop, deputies developed information that the driver may have been in possession of illegal drugs. Authorities identified the driver as 37-year-old Carl Robert Striggow of Coldwater.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies found suspected crack cocaine and methamphetamine in Striggow's possession. A further search of the vehicle allegedly turned up additional items consistent with the sale and distribution of narcotics.
With assistance from the Coldwater Police Department, deputies later searched Striggow's residence. The sheriff's office says investigators found additional suspected methamphetamine and cocaine, along with other evidence they believe is connected to narcotics distribution.
Striggow was taken to the Branch County Jail. The Branch County Prosecutor's Office has charged him with delivery or manufacture of methamphetamine, delivery or manufacture of cocaine, and habitual offender status.
He remains held on a $75,000 cash or surety bond.
The Branch County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Coldwater Police Department, Coldwater Police K-9 Unit and Branch County Central Dispatch Center.
The charges are allegations, and Striggow is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
