(AUBURN) - A 74-year-old Auburn man is jailed without bond after turning himself into authorities, saying he killed a woman inside his home.

Police say Lonnie Cox walked into the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Sunday and reported the killing. Officers then went to his Ensley Avenue residence, where they found a woman dead from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released.

Investigators say Cox told detectives he had been in a dating relationship with the victim. He said the woman came to his home Friday, they argued Saturday, and he shot her during that argument. Cox said a family member visited the home Sunday, learned what happened, and drove him to the sheriff's office to confess what had happened.

Cox has been preliminarily charged with murder. A judge ordered him held without bond during a court appearance Monday. His next court date is February 23rd.
