(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana high school students are graduating at the highest rate in state history, with nearly 92% of the Class of 2025 earning diplomas, according to new data released Monday. The milestone marks the third straight year of improvement and a 1.6 percentage point increase over 2024.
State leaders credit the record-setting performance to sustained academic focus and expanding pathways that prepare students for college, careers, and military service.
"Today's record-high graduation rate is a testament to the hard work of Indiana's students, families, and educators," Gov. Mike Braun said. "When we focus on academic excellence and establish clear, personalized pathways, our students thrive."
The 2025 graduation rate surpasses the previous state record of 90.23%, set just last year. Gains were seen across every major student population, including:
Black students: up more than 3 percentage points to 86.9%
Hispanic students: up nearly 2 points to 89.8%
White students: increased to 93.36%
English learners: climbed to 92.38%
Students in special education: rose to 88.05%
Students receiving free or reduced-price meals: increased to 93.34%
The non-waiver graduation rate--which reflects students completing required postsecondary readiness competencies--also rose sharply, increasing 2.81 percentage points to 90.34%.
Indiana Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner called the results part of broader momentum across the state's education system.
"We celebrated a number of successes in 2025--from unprecedented growth in third-grade literacy to improved chronic absenteeism and now record-breaking graduation rates," Jenner said. "As we continue to scale the new Indiana diploma and readiness seals statewide, we're ensuring students graduate prepared for whatever future they choose."
The Indiana Department of Education also released federal graduation data, which uses a different accountability model. Indiana's federal graduation rate reached 89.95% in 2025, up from 88.67% the previous year.
